Jadira Amaya has been one of many Yakima residents pushing things forward in this community. This night of art and fashion gave a platform to so many talented folks we will be featuring in the coming months. We're excited to introduce them to you all! If you weren't able to attend, let our words and images transport you to that night.
When Jadi throws a party you know to expect excellence.
But you also learn to expect that you will be surprised and delighted and blown away no matter how good last year's party was.
Jadira Amaya is a self-made woman hell-bent on encouraging women to reach for their biggest potential.
The woman has fought cancer and won.
She has raised a gorgeous, self-sufficient, and successful child from the trenches of teenage motherhood.
She went against the grain and dropped a bomb in our small town when she launched online based, social-media fueled, fashion house.
If there is something Jadi is good at is at telling you your own story in a way that seeps its way into your heart and identity. You crave the freedom and the self-assurance of the models decked out in pieces hand picked by Jadira. They remind you of being young and uncompromising in your search for the joy of your heart. It is a touchstone; a talisman to take us back to a certain place in our hearts that refuses to die suffocated under the pressures of modern day American life that has gone all the wrong shades of greige. Yeah, you know, the I am here and I am ready to not party and not rock the boat and not stick out like a sore dumb and fly under the radar together with all the others who have chosen that horrid shade of gray-beige that will most definitely pass the uniformity test.
There are people who want to pay the price of honest and evident joy in their lives for the sake of fitting in and looking like everyone else. This is not a judgement of character. This is comforting and fulfilling to some. But for those who would never paint their own life the color of unflavored oatmeal and have many reasons to drop anchor and make a life in our beautiful, growing yet, small town, there's Wildjay.
Wildjay is the middle finger to boring.
Wildjay is for those of you who refuse to choose between small town life and big city style.
Wildjay is for those of you who do not care for the natural landscapes and city politics that keep us from clothes that make personal adornment performance art.
Wildjay is an anthem to the men and the women who chose to live with heart despite the heartbreak that life brings.
Wildjay is for those of you who don't retrieve back into the shell after big blows that bring you to your knees, but instead you get up and face life with the same open-heartedness, tenderness, wisdom, humility, and brazenness that comes after hard earned lessons.
Wildjay is the autobiography of a woman that has beat the odds and lived many lifetimes before dying.
Wildjay is the book that encourages you to go back and be courageous and be yourself, bet big on your own ideas and your own dreams because it oozes the essence of its creatrix.
I met Jadi for a power lunch once.
Two tacos de tripas each.
No onions for her.
I'll take the bad breath, pile the spicy onions on mine.
I told Jadi about my fears.
I told Jadi about my insecurities and what kept me from the life of an entrepreneur.
She looked at me with her big warm eyes and offer her story like mid August rain.
Then she did the thing that many people don't, because most people aren't Jadi.
That's why most people can't quit their safe, stable, well paid government jobs after just eleven months of launching their creative offspring out into the world.
Jadi said, "what is your plan of action after you leave this meeting?"
That day the scales tipped and I set out to do the things that I wanted to do despite my insides churning like soup.
Would people like it?
Would people receive it?
Would it resonate the way I wish it to?
The courage is not in making it happen as you envisioned it, the courage is to jump feet first.
So when Jadira's invite came in asking us to attend her One Love show, I went and cancelled whatever we had on the calendar for that night and we showed up.
Unfortunately, for many of you, the tickets sold out within weeks.
That is why we are bringing you gorgeous pictures of the decadent event that Yadi crafted for her guests.
One Love was meant to send a very strong and clear message: We are one and we are better united.
In times like these, this feels like a nice but far away and unrealistic platitude.
But sitting there, among all the gorgeous guests with the chic outfits, the cool hair, the art, the music, and the perfectly set up lighting over the runway, made it very hard not to believe again that we can make that happen in our community.
Jadira mines modeling gold for her brand.
Body positive as well as ethnic, age, and size diversity blast her runways and her look books.
No sullen faces at Jadi's runway. The models smile. They dance. They are feeling themselves walking down in front of eyes fixed on them hollering and admiring the outfits, hair, and makeup.
Jadi's hand picked fashion is not about hiding your body and your personality. Go to Sears and The Gap for that.
But if you want to celebrate your existence and your body, you pick something out of Wildjay and make that sidewalk your runway. I assure you the world will holler and clap for you because no one can resist the energy of people who feel good with themselves and blast a smile for no reason.
Jadira has earned the goodness in her life.
And so have you.
You overcame all the pain and the grief and the hardships and didn't lose yourself to the "play it safe" attitude.
You know your heart and you know your place in the world so wear it on the outside too, and be a lighthouse for those who need someone to testify that yes, if you stick to your guns and your values, you overcome and come out better on the other side.
Strut and swagger.
You earned it.
Spread those good vibes like confetti.
Be the next link to the web of unity in our community.
One Love was a testament to the gorgeous souls and talent right here.
Here are some pictures if you'd like to see.
Next year, claim tickets the moment the announcement drops and don't be left out of the coolest party and most fun and elegant company in town.
